Principality of Monaco –
Grand Embassy Reception
H.E. Lorenzo Ravano, Ambassador of Monaco, during his speech at the Waldorf Astoria
H.E. Isabelle Berro-Amadeï, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation – and herself Ambassador to Germany from 2015 to 2019 – opened the reception before around 300 guests. The Minister highlighted the close relations between both countries and the diverse areas of cooperation, including the inauguration of a Monaco-themed area at Europa-Park by the Princely Family on 29 June 2026.
"The Friendship Between Our Nations Reflflflflects the European Spirit"
The Minister underlined the shared values of Monaco and Germany, in particular the commitment to multilateralism."Beyond our diplomatic relations, our two countries are linked by economic exchange, scientific cooperation, cultural dialogue, and close people-to-people contacts. The friendship between our nations reflects the European spirit – the conviction that cross-border cooperation creates prosperity, stability, and opportunities for future generations. It was exactly this spirit that also shaped my discussion today with Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul."
Appreciation for Germany's Leadership Role
The Principality appreciated Germany's leadership role and its commitment to tackling global challenges, particularly in the fields of environmental protection, renewable energies, scientific research, and humanitarian action. Germany and Monaco had equally demonstrated that states of different sizes could make a significant contribution to global tasks. "Through innovation, responsible action, and international cooperation, we can together shape a more sustainable future for all," said Isabelle Berro-Amadeï.
Ambassador H.E. Lorenzo Ravano thanked the numerous guests who had traveled from Monaco and Germany for the anniversary reception, especially the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of the Principality of Monaco, the Honorary Consuls of Monaco in Germany, as well as the members of the International German Club of Monaco and all sponsors. He emphasized that diplomatic relations remained alive not only through official agreements, but above all through personal encounters and friendships.
A History of Close Bilateral Relations
Dr. Christoph Israng, Head of the European Department at the Federal Foreign Office, honored the 21st anniversary of the accession to the throne of H.S.H. Prince Albert II as well as the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Monaco and Germany, and highlighted that the historical photographs and documents displayed at the event impressively illustrated the long history of close bilateral relations.
Science and Research
Israng recalled that the connections between both countries were far older than their official diplomatic relations. Already Prince Albert I had established close scientific contacts with German researchers through his interest in marine research. Today, this tradition is being continued by H.S.H. Prince Albert II through his commitment to ocean protection.
International Engagement
In closing, he thanked the Principality for its international engagement – particularly for its development cooperation and its chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe – and highlighted their joint commitment to peace and stability in Europe. He ended his speech with a toast to H.S.H. Prince Albert II and wished both countries continued close and successful cooperation.
