Since joining the Singapore Foreign Service in 2003, Mr Lee has served in various capacities on issues related to Americas and Southeast Asia. His first posting was as First Secretary (Political) in the Singapore Embassy in Berlin from 2005 to 2007. He was then seconded to the Public Service Division, Prime Minister’s Office to work on public service delivery issues. He returned in 2010 to the Foreign Ministry as Deputy Director in charge of Indonesia. He then served as Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister-Counsellor in the Singapore Embassy in Bangkok from 2012 to 2016.

From 2016 to 2020, Mr Lee was Director-General of the Consular Directorate and coordinated the evacuation of nationals during the pandemic. He was concurrently appointed Director-General of the Europe Directorate in November 2019, and held this post until his appointment as Ambassador to Germany.
