1988-2006 teaching and educational leadership experience at different levels of Education Offices and Teachers’ Colleges, Ethiopia. In 2007, he was assigned to the Ethiopian Embassy in Washington DC where he was First Secretary and then Counsellor. In 2011, he returned to Ethiopia and was appointed as Director General of Human Resource Management at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In 2013, he was one of the founders of the Ethiopian Foreign Service Training Institute and served as the first Director General of the Institute. Then, in 2015 he was posted to the Ethiopian Embassy in the UK with the rank of Minister. Subsequently, in 2019 he was appointed as Consul General for the Ethiopian Consulate General in Frankfurt. Back to Addis Ababa in 2021, he was Deputy Director General of Public Diplomacy and held this position until his appointment as Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to the Federal Republic of Germany.

On May 16th 2023, Fekadu Beyene Ayana presented his credential as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia to Mr. Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President of the Federal Republic of Germany.
