German Trade Office Taipei
Representative body – competent point of contact – service provider for German companies

more than 30 years, the German Trade Office Taipei (AHK Taipei) has been representing the interests of German companies in Taiwan and promoting the economic ties between Germany and Taiwan. The representative body of the German economy, which was founded in 1981 by the Association of German Chambers of Industry and Commerce, is part of a global network of German-Bilateral Chambers of Commerce at 120 locations in 80 countries and cooperates closely especially with the Bilateral Chambers of Commerce in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. The German Trade Office provides information about Taiwan and Germany, organises business delegations and market exploration tours as well as seminars, trade symposiums and network events. Furthermore, the German Trade Office, in close cooperation with Germany Trade and Invest (GTAI ), supports Taiwanese companies with their preparatory work for investments in Germany and, being the representative body of various economic development agencies, acts as a point of contact for establishing business contacts in Germany.

In order to meet the requirements of German and Taiwanese customers seeking professional services during bilateral market entry and the fast and effective development of business contacts in an even better way, the marketing company DEinternational Taiwan Ltd. (DE) was founded in 2005. By offering services such as personnel recruitment, market surveys, business partner search, company formation support, VAT reimbursement, translation services and the realisation of qualification seminars, DE supports companies who wish to establish themselves in Taiwan or are already active in the Taiwanese market. Furthermore, DE acts as a representative body for the trade fair companies Messe Berlin and NürnbergMesse and organises trade fair participation for exhibitors and visitors. Through the competent use of specialised know-how and the comprehensive range of local contacts, the marketing company of the German Trade Office can ensure the high level of quality and professionalism of the offered services.

Today, the German Trade Office is at the core of a wide network of German and Taiwanese companies and cooperates closely with associations and institutes in Germany and Taiwan. In September 2011, the German Trade Office celebrated its 30th anniversary. Among the 450 guests were Hans-Joachim Otto, the Parliamentary State Secretary to the Federal Minister of Economics and Technology, Dr Martin Wansleben, CEO of the German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dr Michael Fuchs, Chairman of the Taiwan Committee of the German Economy as well as, from the Taiwanese side, Dr Christina Y. Liu, Minister of the Council of Economic Planning and Development, and Francis Kuo- Hsin Liang, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

In the coming years, the German Trade Office is planning to develop other theme areas in the economic cooperation. In June 2012, the German Trade Office, aided by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection, will be inviting a delegation of German dairy product manufacturers to Taiwan. That same month, the German Trade Office, in cooperation with NRW International, will also be offering a market exploration trip for medical technology companies from North Rhine-Westphalia. Other planned projects include an investment seminar for Taiwanese companies interested in the Frankfurt-Rhine- Main region as well as a fact-finding trip to Germany for Taiwanese companies and organisations on the topic of energy efficiency in buildings, which is organised within the framework of the Energy Efficiency Export Initiative of the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology.
