EDITORIAL

GLORIOUS FOOD – AGRICULTURE, FROM THREAT TO SOLUTION

Dear Readers,
usually we don’t want to concern ourselves with the topic of security – either we feel safe or we don’t. The latter being the case now during this pandemic. Life can be a dangerous thing. The health situation worldwide has been very insecure for over a year now. Meanwhile, other questions of security are as important but simply have been pushed aside in common consciousness. Germany’s current Minister of Defence, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, spoke about the topic in the interview printed in this issue of Diplomatisches Magazin. Dr. Christoph Heusgen, who worked in the diplomatic service for over four decades, also in the function of Ambassador to the Security Council of the United Nations, explains how fragile the state of security is in certain parts of the world today.

How closely linked autonomy and peace are, that is what the Kosovars know from firsthand experience. In the meantime, the small country in Southeastern Europe celebrates its 13th anniversary of independence. Almost a half a million Kosovars live in Germany – we rarely hear about them, maybe because they have been integrated so well? The Ambassador of Kosovo in Germany voices his opinion in an interview in this edition. We are introducing all the consulates of Kosovo located in Germany, as well.

Last but not least, we will discuss the subject of emotional security: How do we achieve it? What gives us stability? Why can some people overcome the worst experiences while others become mentally ill from the same disasters? The academic discipline of resilienceresearch explores these questions, as Babette Renneberg, Prof. of Psychology at the Free University in Berlin, explains.

These are just some of the topics you will discover in this month’s issue, and there is much more… You will certainly gain new perspectives on the concept of security – for sure.
